Project Description
The preserved Chancay objects — including figurines and textiles discovered in burial contexts — reflect a deep connection between cultural identity, material knowledge, and the relationship between humans and the natural world.
The central question of the project is:
How can an ancient cultural form be transformed into a new contemporary presence?
Inspired by Chancay figurative art and its connection to natural materials, the project explores how historical references can be reimagined through my own artistic
language. Through this transformation, new forms emerge within my artistic universe: monumental beings called AROM Entities (Ancient Roots of Memory).
The AROM Entities are contemporary sculptural beings that explore the connection between ancient knowledge, natural materials, and our relationship with the living world.
Project Description
- The project is based on two natural materials:
- Bamboo – Inner Structure
- Bamboo forms the internal framework of the entities.
- It is not only a construction element, but an organic skeleton that supports the monumental forms.
- Wool – Living SurfaceWool becomes the outer layer of the entities.
- Its softness, texture, and natural qualities create a sensory relationship between material, sculpture, and the viewer.
- The combination of bamboo and wool creates a dialogue between plant-based structure and animal-derived fibre
